Do you have to use dog nail clippers to trim a dogs nails? Can you use regular nail cippers?

dont use regular nail clippers. they can cut at the wrong angle and hit the blood vessel in their nails.Do you have to use dog nail clippers to trim a dogs nails? Can you use regular nail cippers?
Yes, I use them all the time. Be careful, though and if you are going to do it yourself, buy some Styptic Powder. It stops the bleeding if you cut too short.Do you have to use dog nail clippers to trim a dogs nails? Can you use regular nail cippers?
dog nail clippers should always be used. They are not too expensive
dog nail clippers, they're made alot differently than the ones we humans use.
no use dog nail trimmers they are designed specifically for dogs. and when you trim your dogs nails dont go to far....if you dog has black nails be esp. more careful...if they have kind of clear nails just go to a little bit before the end of the vein in their nails....the vien looks a little like a stripe in their nails....
Regualr nail trimmers are not strong enough to use on dog's nails. They simply cannot handle the job. You should buy trimmers specifically designed for the job. There are several kinds on the market. I prefer the kind that looks like wire trimmers they are great on thick nails and last a long time. The guillitene style trimmers work but tend to break often.
When my dog was a puppy I just used a regular nail cutter on him.. now since he's alot bigger i have to use the dog nail clipper.. My friend has a lil chihuahua and she uses a regular nail clipper.
I would try regular nail clippers and if it's not working so well, call up the local vet and ask!
No...their nails are not even remotely like ours. They are much thicker.
Eather dog or human clippers work for most dogs however I like human clippers for my two little Papillions becouse I can't cut to far into the claw. But a big dog's claw may be to thick to cut with human clippers, i think it's a matter of personal choice. Remember to be careful when trimming you're dogs claws and only trim away a little at a time. If bleeding occurs blot the claw with a tissue and if bleeding doent stop contact you're vet. I hope this helps :)
No don't use regular clippers dogs nails are to thick.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CUTTING YOUR DOGS NAILS YOUR SELF FOR YOU COULD CUT A VESSEL AND PUT YOUR DOG IN LOTS OF PAIN FOR A WEEK
you should only use dog nail clipppers for they are designed for dogs
Well quite a mix of answers you're getting here! Consider this..they don't make dog clippers for no reason. Why not ask your vet next time you're there? He can TELL you the proper tools, WHY they are the correct tools and how to use them correctly.

It's kind of like this...just like carpentry or any other thing, a pro will tell you using the proper tools makes all the difference. Really, they do.....
My husband did with ours. Just be careful with the quick.
you shouldnt use regular nail clippers because dogs have thicker toe nails and the dog clippers will make sure you dont cut too far, and make the dog bleed. Dog nail clipper will give a nice smooth cut and you can buy them at any pet store.
No, you can't use regular clippers, they are the wrong shape and not strong enough to clip a dog's nails.

If you have never done it before, let a professional groomer or your vet show you how - it's too easy to hurt your dog by cutting below the ';quck';, especially with dogs who have dark nails.
take the dog to the grommers they will do the nial cliping ok
