Does wearing too much nail polish really turn your nails yellow?

i heard it was because it drys them out... but do they really turn yellow?Does wearing too much nail polish really turn your nails yellow?
Some polishes have chemicals in them which may dry your nails a bit, but not really that many have those chemicals, except for strengtheners. Many nail strengtheners have formaldehyde in them, and that is known to dry nails out and make them brittle with prolonged use of those products. One of the main causes of dry nails is overexposure to water, and harsh chemicals including nail polish remover and acetone - along with many household cleaners as well.

Quite frequently, the main cause of yellowing is from the polish itself. The natural nail is porous and therefore, they absorb liquids easily - including nail polish, especially the darker shades. And after using it for a while, your nails usually will turn yellow.

To help prevent this from happening, always use a good quality basecoat. Some people will advise you to use clear polish as a base coat, but it is not the same product as a basecoat. Good quality basecoats have a 'sticky' surface to them even when dry. This helps the polish to adhere better. Clear polish will not do this for you. Also, a good basecoat will also help prevent stained nails because it acts as a barrier between the polish and your natural nails. If your budget will allow it, try not to skimp on quality of the basecoat because basecoats are not created equal. The better quality ones will give you much better results. You don't have to spend a small fortune on it, just a few bucks more for one bottle - which will last you quite a long time.

Have you tried to buff the yellow stains out? If not, use a very fine grit buffer and gently buff the entire surface of the nail. Move the buffer vertically, and avoid back and forth motions across the nail. This puts scratches in it. If the stain is not all the way through the nail, then this should help get rid of the staining.

A few other things that help to remove surface staining of the nails: Try denture cleaner tablets. Dissolve in water according to the instructions, and soak your nails in the solution for several minutes, You may need to repeat the process a few times for best results. The other thing is touse the juice from a fresh lemon, and soak your nails in that for a few minutes. Make sure to wash your hands after you are finished. Lemon juice works very well to remove surface staining of the nail as well as denture tablets. I have never tried this one, but I have heard of people soaking their nails in a diluted solution of bleach and water to whiten and brighten their nails. I would be careful with that one, but it may just work. I mean, bleach is a whitener, right?Does wearing too much nail polish really turn your nails yellow?
ive worn red nail polish on my toes for like the past two years and theyre kinda stained red. so i guess it can stain them
not too much, but for too long yes it will turn your nails yellow

you might also get white spots

so best not to wear nail polish or fake nails for too long
It can yeah, I had always put lots of nail polish on my nails and I've had that happen to me. I think it depends on the color though, when I wore purple nail polish that didn't happen but when I wore orange nail polish for a long time my nails were yellowish when I took the nail polish off.
Don't worry as long as you keep your nails clean and don't ALWAYS wear nail polish you're fine.
