Should I get fake nails? Does it hurt your real nails? How long do they last?

I usually just get a regular old french manicure, but I was thinking about getting fake ones put on this time. Does it damage your real nails to get fake ones put on top? Which do you prefer to have?

My natural nails are in pretty good shape, but the paint always flakes off in 2-3 days which is really annoying! If i got fake ones, they would last a lot longer, right?Should I get fake nails? Does it hurt your real nails? How long do they last?
honestly, i don't recommend fake nails just because they ruin your real nails. if you have nice strong nails then work with that ..i got fake nails for my grade 12 graduation like 6 years ago and have never got them since. they looked cute and lasted a long time but my poor nails took for ever to recover. Just get a french manicure done on your natural nails and they'll look adorable! short nails are really cute anyways :) they are the new fakes heheShould I get fake nails? fake nails are so tacky and they damage your real nails. if your having issues with nail polish flaking get a better brand nail polish, and try putting 3 coats, first a base coat the strenghens the nail, 2nd coat is the color, and 3rd coat is a quick dryer polish. your nails stay shiny, healthy and even better looking than those nasty fake nails
i like the fake ones, they are classy......they hurt a little when they come off but not much! ummmm, yeah they do deprive your nails of oxygen, so i would'nt recomend getting them done everytime they come off............wait like 2 weeks ater taking them all off before you get some more on!! they will stay on like 2-4 or 5 weeks depending on the person...................hope i helped...........♥lensie
it does do some damage but that's only if you take them off yourself, i like the gel, but my friend swears by acrylics.

they recommend that you only have them on for no more than a month at a time, and you have to get them filled once a week so it gets pricey.
Yes they damage your real nails.

I've been getting acrylic nails for about 3 years now.

Yes they last about 2-3 weeks depending on your nail growth, and then you'll need a fill in.
If you have good nails than don't unless you plan on keeping the fake nails for a long time and get them filed in! Whenever you take them off your nails are a mess until they grow out again! :D
it will damge your nnails but not that bad --it lasts about a month becuz ur nails grow and it begins to show

If you go to a good salon, then the damage will be next to nothing - if anything at all. It's those cheap places that you have to worry about. The ones that charge like $ 20-25 for a full set, allow walk-ins, and don't speak our language? Those places are the worst you can go to, and they DO have a reputation for being unskilled and ruining your nails. Instead, avoid these places, and find a GOOD, reputable salon where they really do care about their work, and take pride in it. I mean, just the language barrier is a really bad thing to have to dela with. How can it be good id the only way to describe, or voice your concerns is to point at your nails, and make simple hand gestures to get your point across to them? And that doesn't work lots of the time. And, the only words you speak a lot of the time when you enter these cheap places is things like ';Full set,'; or ';Fill.'; The only things they say to you a good percentage of the time is, for example, ';how short,'; or ';You go wash,'; and of course, ';what color?'; That does not make for good communication between the tech and the cusstomer, especially if you have special needs, or concerns or possibly problems with your nails. They can't answer you.

Now, I'm NOT trying to be racist, and I did NOT point out any one particular race of people. I am, however, speaking the truth about these things. Avoid the cheap salons that are run by immigrants who cannot understand, nor speak much - if any, English.

And, that is not true. You can keep acrylic, or gel nails on for a LOT longer than a month. You just need to have them filled on a regular basis. See, a lot of these cheap places have very unskilled, and untrained techs. Many don't even have a valid license to do nails - which is illegal. Anwyay, many of these people cannot do a fill because they don't know how to, and will tell you that you need to have a new full set each time you go in. It's simply not true. You do not need a new full set every month or two, or whatever amount of time. There are a few exceptions, but those are rare for an experienced, and skilled tech. BTW, the amount of time between fills averages 2 weeks, sometimes 3 but no more than that.

Oh, and for those who say that they hurt when being removed, this is not true either. When done correctly, it never hurts to have your nails removed. It's these unskilled morons who remove them incorrectly that hurts you. For example, taking a naik tip, and shoving it between your natural nail and the acrylic nail, then prying it off is NOT the way to remove them. Those techs that do that shouldn't be doing nails in the first place. NO nail service should EVER hurt, or be in the least bit uncomfortable. Ever. Acrylic nails need to be slowly soaked off in pure acetone. Geez , I really wish they would ban all these sleazy, cheap, and unsanitary chop shops.
